Welcome to the Maharaji aka Prem Rawat Information Resource
This web site has been developed by former followers of Prem Pal Singh Rawat, who has also been known as Maharaji, Guru Maharaj Ji and Balyogeshwar. The purpose of this website is to provide an accessible information resource for those interested in the character and history of Prem Rawat and the organisations that support and promote him.
This website should in no way be construed as an official publication of either Prem Rawat, or the organisations that promote him, which include Elan Vital, the Prem Rawat Foundation, Priyan Foundation, Words of Peace Global and Raj Vidya Kender.
One of the challenges presented in making any appraisal of the history of Prem Rawat is the variety of names applied to both Rawat and his supporting organisations. Throughout this website the names used are those that are most chronologically appropriate. When Prem Rawat first came to the West in the 1970s, he was referred to as Guru Maharaj Ji or Guru Maharaji. In India he was also called Balyogeshwar. His first promotional organisations were called Divine Light Mission (DLM) and Divine United Organization (DUO). Later in the 1980s Rawat started referring to himself as Maharaji and the various Divine Light Mission organisations were gradually replaced by entities using the name Élan Vital. Currently Prem Rawat typically uses his given name but his followers call him 'Maharaji' a Hindi word which he translates as "the Ultimate Ruler". His most recent major organisations are called The Prem Rawat Foundation and Words Of Peace Global. In 1975 following a legal battle with the administrators of Divya Sandesh Parishad Prem Rawat lost control of the Indian Divine Light Mission. With the loss of the Indian DLM, the promotional organisation for Prem Rawat in India became the Divine United Organization, now renamed Raj Vidya Kender.
The authors of this website have gone to great efforts to create an objective and broad-ranging account of Prem Rawat and his movement. All attempts have been made to present a truthful account of events depicted. It is not our intention to attack Prem Rawat his followers, or to in any way restrict their right of religious freedom though how could anyone prevent people from practising Prem Rawat's Knowledge which is basically poking their fingers in their eyes, squeezing their thumbs in their ears, thinking about their breathing, and rolling their tongues back up behind their uvula or kissing Prem Rawat's feet?
The authors welcome corrections to any inaccuracies that may have inadvertently been applied to the website's content. Whether you are a journalist, someone who is interested in Prem Rawat's message, or a current or former follower, we hope you will find the information on this website helpful in your endeavours to learn more about Prem Rawat AKA Maharaji.
